Subject [jira] [Created] (HDFS-3815) CorruptBlocks documentation is misleading
Date Fri, 17 Aug 2012 19:37:38 GMT
Andy Isaacson created HDFS-3815:
-----------------------------------

             Summary: CorruptBlocks documentation is misleading
                 Key: HDFS-3815
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-3815
             Project: Hadoop HDFS
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: name-node
    Affects Versions: 2.0.0-alpha
            Reporter: Andy Isaacson
            Assignee: Andy Isaacson
            Priority: Minor

In {{FSNamesystem.java}} we have

{code}
  /** Returns number of blocks with corrupt replicas */
  @Metric({"CorruptBlocks", "Number of blocks with corrupt replicas"})
{code}
The CorruptBlocks metric does not count blocks, it counts replicas. Unfortunately many places
depend on the name {{CorruptBlocks}} so changing the name would be incompatible. But we can
at least update the Javadoc and description to explain the misnomer.
