Hi,

hadoop has entered Debian unstable a few days ago:
http://packages.qa.debian.org/h/hadoop.html

Please use it, test it, spread the word about it! Having Hadoop in a major 
linux distribution can significantly improve the visibility and lower the 
entry barrier.

There are still some TODO items to improve the packaging:

- build more contribs
- build the C++ nativ libraries
- build the C bindings
- build KFS and Amazon Filesystem bindings
