Subject Re: [VOTE] Release candidate for Hadoop 0.20.2

-0 on this particular tarball (md5sum
9759e01d7426c9bbe14758bf9ab69012). Trying to compile from the tarball
with ant -Dcompile.c++=true -Dcompile.native=true -Dlibhdfs=true
bin-package I ran into these issues on my karmic box at home:

1) The configure scripts are not all executable.

/tmp/hadoop-0.20.2/build.xml:1418: Execute failed: java.io.IOException: Cannot r
un program "/tmp/hadoop-0.20.2/src/c++/pipes/configure" (in directory "/tmp/hado
op-0.20.2/build/c++-build/Linux-amd64-64/pipes"): java.io.IOException: error=13,
 Permission denied

I applied HADOOP-5612 to fix this, though I think creating a tarball
after chmod 755ing the configure scripts would also be correct.

Buildfile: build.xml

2) native build failed due to missing header includes in c++ code

I applied the patches from HADOOP-5611 and MAPREDUCE-1251 to get past this

These same problems are present as seen in the branch-20 Hudson build:

3) It would be nice if the tarball had libhdfs included in c++/lib in
addition to the pipes libraries. libhdfs wasn't in 0.20.1 either,
though, so I don't think it's a big deal. If you end up doing a
rebuild, people would probably be happy to see -Dlibhdfs=true in the

I say -0 instead of -1 because none of these issues are regressions
from 0.20.1. When we did 0.20.1 we didn't notice some all of these,
since several are problems that only show up on some newer distros
(like karmic). Since we're doing a new release, and the patches apply
cleanly and are pretty trivial, I think we should include them.
