You raise a good question about the JobTracker and NameNode.  While it is possible to configure
a test environment, single node cluster or limited server configuration with the JobTracker
and NameNode on the same box, its not recommended as a production architecture configuration.
The JobTracker is responsible for handing tasks out to the rest of the slaves for paralleled execution.
The Name Node manages the namespace, file system metadata, and access control.  Here is
a great tutorial (may be outdated but I like it): http://pages.cs.brandeis.edu/~cs147a/lab/hadoop-cluster/

Thank you, I was able to get oceansync working. I didn't realize my JobTracker is running
on the same server as the name node. Is this a bad idea?

Rock On,

Check the options in this Wiki for more details about that option, it should be in your hadoop/conf
directory (grep for it).  Also recommend reading the OceanSync documentation http://www.oceansync.com/index.php?dove=downloads

Subject: oceansync jobtracker uri

I just started using oceansync hadoop management beta and i was wondering how to get the hadoop
JobTracker URI information? i found the hdfs uri but not the jobtracker uri. it says there
should be a property called mapred.job.tracker but i am not sure where to look, any ideas?
