I did run these commands,

set mapred.system.dir to "/mapred/system" in mapred-site.xml
sudo -u hdfs hadoop fs -mkdir /mapred/system
sudo -u hdfs hadoop fs -chown mapred /mapred/system

where does the path /mapred/system get created?  It did now show up when I
did a find from /

The jobtracker is now running BTW.
