Thanks a lot for the suggestions, Steve!

I agree that for students unfamiliar with Java, it can be a lot of 
overhead.  We'll consider the options you listed.  Maybe setup the M/R 
HWs as an alternative to the normal track, so that interested undergrads 
can take this instead.
