Ewan Higgs commented on HADOOP-13625:

{quote}{code}
FileSystem#createSnapshot
{code}{quote}

Obviously on the {{.snapshot/...}} directory the mtime should be the time of creation, but
should the mtime of the directory being snapshotted be updated? This means two consecutive
snapshots will not result in a 'no differences' diff due to the differring mtimes.

> Hadoop users and developers of Hadoop-compatible file systems have sometimes asked questions
about which file system actions trigger an update of the path's modification time. This issue
proposes to document which actions do and do not update modification time, so that the information
is easy to find without reading HDFS code or manually testing individual cases.
