Subject [jira] [Commented] (HADOOP-14647) Update third-party libraries for Hadoop 3
Date Thu, 13 Jul 2017 13:53:00 GMT

Ray Chiang commented on HADOOP-14647:

HADOOP-9991 never goes away, it's the eternal "carefully update things" task, And Akira Ajisaka
has been wonderful in suffering there.

Yeah, I knew HADOOP-9991 had some of the bigger ticket items left (Jetty/Netty, cough).

I'm definitely aiming for Hadoop 3.0.0 release only and we'll see how far discussion, contributions,
and testing gets.

One problem we've always had is the "breaking downstream code" problem...I hope now there's
more shading life is better, but it's still good to tread carefully to avoid upset HBase,
Hive, Spark, Flink teams

Thanks for letting me know the dependencies. I had planned to test against HBase/Hive/Spark,
since I have that readily available.

The ones' I'm mostly scared of are: jackson, ZK, jetty, guava, curator; nice to see they are
not on the list yet. jsp-api may be tied to jersey, so tread carefully there.

Yes. The list generated here is specifically leaving out the landmines I knew about, like:

 HBase (through ATSv2)
Curator/ZK (although I was debating getting ZK bumped from 3.4.9 to 3.4.10)

I'll have to look into the jsp-api/jersey linkage. Thanks.

> There are a bunch of old third-party dependencies in trunk. Before we get to the final
release candidate, it would be good to move some of these dependencies to the latest (or at
least the latest compatible)
> , since it could be a while before the next update.
