as suggested offline, I'd prefer to use something other than {{table.describe()}} for the
init, as it is more expensive and throttled. IF there are many client instances starting at
the same time, it may hit problems.

One thing to consider. if a {{table.get()}} succeeds, do you need a {{table.waitForActive();}}
afterwards? can we just return immediately?
