Allen Wittenauer edited comment on HADOOP-11723 at 3/17/15 12:28 AM:
---------------------------------------------------------------------

-00:
* Initial public version
* This is like my first real code in python. It shows. (I'd rather do this in perl, but I
know what kind of reaction that would have...)

These scripts query JIRA and generate markdown files. The formatting has been changed in
quite a few ways:

* Tables, tables everywhere
* Release note only contain issues with release notes instead of all of them
* non-ASCII characters are kept in UTF-8 instead of turned into HTML-compliant encoding
* release notes can be formatted in markdown, alleviating a ton of the mess in the previous
versions
* Incompatible patches are called out if they lack release notes in the generated file
* probably other things that I'm forgetting since i've been using these for months now.

I've got some github hosted runs for various versions here: https://github.com/aw-altiscale/hadoop-release-metadata/

It's fun to compare vs. what is currently generated, esp for release notes.
