Good comment, Alejandro. Initially, I started with something similar to what you are talking
about. See [https://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12600275/HADOOP-8704.patch].
Once I began testing the components, i found it a little unwieldy since it tied the appender
class to the runtime environment. Let me see what i would look like to embed that logic inside
the NCSARequestLogAppender constructor and see if we can get the best of both worlds without
the complexity of a factory class.
