Subject [jira] [Commented] (HADOOP-9151) Include RPC error info in RpcResponseHeader instead of sending it separately

Eli Collins commented on HADOOP-9151:

I think we're making too much out of this issue. It's a small and minor cleanup. It's also
clearly an incompatible change - wire compatibility is just as important as API compatibility.
Aside from the fact that this isn't a good trade-off (break wire compatibility for a small
cleanup?) we explicitly discussed maintaining client wire compatibility after 2.0 on general@
and our release policy (http://wiki.apache.org/hadoop/Roadmap) covers this:

"Thus every release with the same major version is both API and 'on the wire' compatible."

I'd be OK with this change for trunk/3.0, even though it would be a bummer if 3.0 clients
don't work with the previous major version.
