Hi, Which version of Hadoop are you using ?

In Hadoop 1.0, you can submit a job using the Job.submit API and then on the job object do
a getJobId(). For e.g.

{code}
Configuration configuration = new Configuration();
Job job = new Job(configuration, "JobName");
// ...
job.submit();
System.out.println(job.getJobID());
{code}

Was this what you were looking for ? Otherwise, can you provide some more details of what
you require ?

> A method to retrieve the job id on submitting the job (using a JAVA client program) will
do a lot. It will be easier to track the job if the job id and job can be linked in some way.
Currently there is no direct way to identify the job id of a particular job.
