Subject [jira] [Commented] (HADOOP-7680) TestHardLink fails on Mac OS X, when gnu stat is in path

Milind Bhandarkar commented on HADOOP-7680:
-------------------------------------------

@Matt, /opt/local/libexec/gnubin/stat is not *broken* it's just gnu stat (rather than bsd
stat that is in /usr/bin/stat). I need that gnu stat, since it is called in the configure
for a subtask I am working on. So, cannot override it.

I did not find a common cmd line param that will work with both bsd stat and gnu stat.

Third choice is the only way to go, it seems. But I don't have bandwidth to do it.

But, would it be too much of a hassle if /usr/bin/stat is explicitly referred to, since the
target is Mac only, and very unusual to find stat in any place other than /usr/bin/stat ?
This will also avoid issues such as when user has a ./stat (a nice statistics program ;-)
etc ?

> For a specific reason, `which stat` = /opt/local/libexec/gnubin/stat, on my Mac. o.a.h.f.HardLink
checks for os.name, detects it's a MacOSX, and assumes that stat points to /usr/bin/stat,
and uses -f%l as arguments, which fails. The upcoming patch explicitly sets stat to use /usr/bin/stat
on Mac OS. In 0.22, this code is part of o.a.h.f.FileUtil, and in 0.23 and trunk it is in
o.a.h.f.HardLink. Both patches forthcoming.
