Ravi Prakash updated HADOOP-7509:
---------------------------------

    Attachment: HADOOP-7509.1.patch

The log message looks like
{noformat}
2011-04-04 17:52:48,916 INFO org.apache.hadoop.ipc.Server: IPC Server listener on 8020: readAndProcess
threw exception
org.apache.hadoop.security.AccessControlException: Authentication is required. Count of bytes
read: 0
org.apache.hadoop.security.AccessControlException: Authentication is required
        at org.apache.hadoop.ipc.Server$Connection.readAndProcess(Server.java:1121)
        at org.apache.hadoop.ipc.Server$Listener.doRead(Server.java:536)
        at org.apache.hadoop.ipc.Server$Listener$Reader.run(Server.java:343)
        at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor$Worker.runTask(ThreadPoolExecutor.java:886)
        at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor$Worker.run(ThreadPoolExecutor.java:908)
        at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619)

This confuses users. The error can be more detailed. Attaching a patch to do so. Can someone
please review and commit it? No tests attached because its too small a change.

> The message when security is enabled and authentication is configured to be simple is
not explicit enough. It simply prints out "Authentication is required" and prints out a stack
trace. The message should be "Authorization (hadoop.security.authorization) is enabled but
authentication (hadoop.security.authentication) is configured as simple. Please configure
another method."
