Subject [jira] [Created] (HADOOP-9142) Released tarballs contain as value for version property <version>-SNAPSHOT in build.xml
Date Fri, 14 Dec 2012 01:12:27 GMT
Mark Grover created HADOOP-9142:

             Summary: Released tarballs contain as value for version property <version>-SNAPSHOT
in build.xml
                 Key: HADOOP-9142
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-9142
             Project: Hadoop Common
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: build
    Affects Versions: 1.1.1
            Reporter: Mark Grover
            Priority: Minor

I tried rebuilding examples jar after untarring a released tarball (v1.1.1). The build failed
(for an unrelated reason), however the datanode's version changed to be 1.1.2-SNAPSHOT while
the namenode's version stayed 1.1.1
Because of this version mismatch, the datanode wasn't able to communicate with the namenode
and failed during handshake.

This is because build.xml contains
<property name="version" value="1.1.2-SNAPSHOT"/>

Would it make sense to change to
<property name="version" value="1.1.1"/>
when releasing tarballs? That way version mismatchs don't happen on rebuilds from released
