In the future I'll remember not to refer to jira's in the patch comments. It is a habit to
include a backreference to the origin of the change that has been pointed out not applicable
to this project.  As to the patch, I will withdraw it if there is a better way to solve the
problem.  It fixed the issue for me but I'm always open to a better idea.
