Subject [jira] Commented: (HADOOP-5291) chukwa agent should do something sensible if CHUKWA_HOME isn't defined
Date Mon, 09 Mar 2009 20:53:50 GMT

Ari Rabkin commented on HADOOP-5291:

Hrm. I think bailing out is almost always the wrong thing. I don't want to drive away people
who are just playing with Chukwa for the first time by making them do anything to set it up.
Given that this is purely a fallback anyway (and given that all our other scripts tie us
to POSIX!) I think it's okay to hardcode /tmp as a default.

> If Chukwa is started in such a way that CHUKWA_HOME doesn't get set, then pid files are
stored in chukwa/null/var.... This comes up if, e.g., the agent is started within eclipse.
We can make this case look prettier by defaulting to /tmp.
