Need a tool to analyse and verify file block movements
------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: HADOOP-828
                 URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-828
             Project: Hadoop
          Issue Type: New Feature
          Components: util
    Affects Versions: 0.9.1
            Reporter: Nigel Daley
         Attachments: Block-Movement-Analysis-Tool-Design.html

Occasionally a file is corrupted because a block goes missing. This may occur if all the Datanodes
containing a given block shutdown or crash, or from defects in the Datanode or Namenode code-base.
A simple diagnostic tool is needed that can trace and analyze the historical movement of
the blocks in a given file.
