Subject [jira] Commented: (HADOOP-338) the number of maps in the JobConf does not match reality

Owen O'Malley commented on HADOOP-338:

It certainly surprised me that conf.getNumMapTasks() didn't return the right number and I
_should_ have known better. It seems like if we want to leave access to the desired number
of maps, we should change it to getDesiredNumMapTasks() or something closer to the real semantics.

> Key: HADOOP-338
> URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-338
> Project: Hadoop
> Type: Bug

> Versions: 0.4.0
> Reporter: Owen O'Malley
> Assignee: Owen O'Malley

> The config value JobConf.getNumMapTasks() returns the hint of how many maps should be
run rather than the actual number of input splits that were generated.
> The job tracker should fix the job.xml with the actual number of input splits.
