First, have you tried using  gumpy.bat or gumpy.sh? Not saying it helps, but
might.

BTW: Finally dawned on me that ought have been a gumpy.py (standalone, no
links into gump\* modules) that forces the CVS update for gump modules,
etc., before launching. I'll add it to the TODOs.

This looks like a problem with your environment that isn't taken into
consideration. The way CVS works is it stores 'encrypted' (ok mangled)
passwords in ~/.cvspass [or M$ translation, %USERPROFILE%\.cvspass]. Doesn't
seem like Gumpy can read/write this. We ought add this to JIRA.

Try running CVS from the command line to see if you can get past this.
FWIIW: Running gumpy.bat ought have found this (not sure if it fails
correctly, I don't hack DOS that well.)
