I've never tried this, but you can override the default = 9;derbySystemHome' attribute on the DerbySystem GBean. Find the system-= database module in config.xml and make it something like:

=A0 =A0<module name=3D"org.apache.geronimo.configs/system-database= /2.1.5/car">
=A0 =A0 =A0 =A0<gbean name=3D"DerbyNetwork">
=A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0<attribute name=3D"host">${ServerHo= stname}</attribute>
=A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0<attribute name=3D"port">${DerbyPor= t + PortOffset}</attribute>
=A0 =A0 =A0 =A0</gbean>
=A0 =A0 =A0 =A0<gbean name=3D"DerbySystem">
=A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0<attribute name=3D"derbySystemHome">var= /derby</attribute>
=A0 =A0 =A0 =A0</gbean>
=A0 =A0</module>

I would assume that derbySystemHome can be configured to an explicit locati= on, rather than a relative location...
