My /etc/hosts file has the following:
127.0.0.1              <machine B's hostname>  localhost.localdomain
localhost

It should be like this:
127.0.0.1              localhost.localdomain localhost
<machine B's external IP> <machine B's hostname>

::1             localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
