Hi Wade,
Your problem is in your -Djava.ext.dirs setting. Replace:




Similar problem with endorsed.dirs, but endorsed.dirs will be empty,  
anyway... Note that the above is not setting -javaagent. So, OpenJPA  
will not be operating in its normal mode. Start a server using  
' run', will start the server as follows:

jpa.jar -Dorg.apache.geronimo.home.dir=/Users/kevan/Servers/geronimo- 
tomcat6-javaee5-2.1.4 -Djava.endorsed.dirs=/Users/kevan/Servers/ 
JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5/Home/lib/endorsed -Djava.ext.dirs=/Users/ 
Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5/Home/lib/ext - -jar /Users/kevan/Servers/geronimo-tomcat6-
