Hmm. Are you sure the download and unzip completed successfully?

Is the following file in your Geronimo install? repository/org/apache/ 
geronimo/framework/geronimo-common/2.1/geronimo-common-2.1.jar

What version of Java are you using?

I'd recommend that you use Geronimo 2.1.2 on general grounds (not that  
I think it fixes this problem).
