My hibernate.cfg.xml has the following which is similar to the one specified in the link given by you
<hibernate-configuration>
    <session-factory>
        <!-- Data source -->
        <property name="connection.datasource">java:comp/env/jdbc/XYZDataSource</property>

        <!-- JDBC settings -->
        <property name="hibernate.jdbc.batch_size">200</property>
        <property name="statement_cache.size">100</property>
        <!-- Cache settings-->
        <property name="hibernate.cache.provider_class">net.sf.ehcache.hibernate.Provider</property>
        <property name="hibernate.cache.use_query_cache ">true</property>
        <!-- Transaction API -->
        <property name="transaction.factory_class">net.sf.hibernate.transaction.JDBCTransactionFactory</property>
        <property name=" transaction.manager_lookup_class">net.sf.hibernate.transaction.GeronimoTransactionManagerLookup</property>

    </session-factory>
</hibernate-configuration>

I think you are as the properties for database pools are in Geronimo
and Hibernate configuration files. Hibernate doesn't really know about
Geronimo and its database pools. Take a look at hibernate-cfg.xml in
