Could do. What other type(s) of metadata were you thinking of?

Could put it into an XML format if you wanted; after all, a properties 
file is just a poor-man's XML file. Don't see any reason why it 
couldn't be, apart from the fact it was much easier for me to generate 
as a properties file :-)
