Jens Piegsa commented on FREEMARKER-49:
---------------------------------------

Given {{strip_text}} does not affect the content of {{#assign}} and {{#macro}} blocks, my
usage boils down to the following scenario:

1. I have one large master template that defines a {{#macro}} that produces a full HTML output.
2. I have multiple small templates that import the master template, they only define optional
sections via {{#assign}} and call the macro of the master template
3. I do not want the small templates being able to "mess up" the full output of the master
template.

Beside that {{strip_whitespace=true}} still leaves unwanted empty lines.

> The {{Configuration}} class should provide a getter/setter for the {{strip_text}} option.
> Currently there does not seem to be a way to activate this option globally, you have
to put this line on top of each template:
> {code}
> [#ftl strip_text=true /]
> {code}
> For sake of consistency {{Configuration.setSetting(String,String)}} may accept the keys
"stripText" and "strip_text" too.
