You'd be better off asking this broad questions of the Cocoon community. 
Forrest is pretty focused on being a publishing framework and nothing 
more. It is the job of Cocoon to add all the other stuff.

That being said, anything Cocoon can do Forrest can also do since it is 
a Cocoon application.

With respect to retrieving and publishing data from databases I do have 
a DB plugin on my hard drive waiting for tidying up before committing 
here. If you need it just ask.
