Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: FOR-268
Summary: relative URIs with absolute paths are broken in the site.xml linking mechanism
       Type: Bug

     Status: Unassigned
   Priority: Major

    Project: Forrest
  Component: Core operations
    Fix For: 0.6
   Versions:
             HEAD

   Assignee:
   Reporter: David Crossley

    Created: Sat, 28 Aug 2004 6:25 AM
    Updated: Sat, 28 Aug 2004 6:25 AM

Description:
It is possible to use all forms of relative URIs using the old "book.xml" linking mechanism.
Relative URIs are fine in the new "site.xml" mechanism, but not if they use absolute paths.

The attached files demonstrate the issue (site.xml and samples/subdir/book.xml).
