Here is an overview of the issue:
        Key: FOR-50
    Summary: Document headless operation
       Type: Improvement

     Status: Closed
   Priority: Minor
 Resolution: FIXED

    Project: Forrest
  Component: Forrest website

   Reporter: Eirik Bjorsnos

    Created: Fri, 4 Jul 2003 12:10 PM
    Updated: Wed, 30 Jul 2003 1:36 PM
Environment: Debian 3.0, no X11, JDK 1.4.

Generating PNG from SVG running forrest on a headless (non-X) system is not possible. Batik
stops because it can't connect to an X Server.

The java VM needs to be given the argument -Djava.awt.headless=true

I tried to do a "forrest -Djava.awt.headless", but that was given as an argument to org.apache.cocoon.Main,
not as a JVM argument.

I managed to get it working by adding
<jvmarg  value="-Djava.awt.headless=true"/>

to the <java> task in the "-site" target in <FORREST_HOME>/

I guess this should be documented somewhere, perhaps as a FAQ or in
