Strange, the idea of static indexes (in the book sense) has never
occurred to me.  Am I right in thinking Lucene can't do this currently?

A site index would be a nice 'static HTML' equivalent of built-in Lucene
searching, especially with Mozilla 1.2's search-as-you-type feature.
