Do you mean, the firewall would prevent you from viewing http://127.0.0.1:8888/, or that the
open port is a security risk?

If the former, fix your firewall :) If the latter, I wouldn't worry: lots of orgs run Jetty
very publicly on port 80 and haven't been hacked, and the chances of hacking your installation
in the relatively brief period while editing docs seems highly unlikely. If you're behind
a decently configured firewall (or NAT), port 8888 isn't publicly visible anyway.

Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: FOR-14
    Summary: Dependencies not granular
       Type: Bug

     Status: Closed
   Priority: Critical
 Resolution: FIXED

    Project: Forrest
  Component: Core operations

   Assignee:
   Reporter: Ralf Hauser

    Created: Sat, 11 Jan 2003 1:08 AM
    Updated: Sat, 11 Jan 2003 2:38 AM
Environment: 030110
(see http://issues.cocoondev.org/jira//secure/ViewIssue.jspa?key=FOR-13)

Description:
When I change one word in the file src\documentation\content\xdocs\index.xml
and then type "forrest", all files in fst\build\site get rebuilt.
This is very inefficient and time-consuming - it doesn't scale! I guess as long as the true
functionality of ant in this respect isn't used, no big/serious website will use forrest.
