The reason being that I found sometimes the metric in this line doesn't have any value, and will throw NullPointException when calling Gauge#getValue(). The part that checks if a Gauge returns a number is in DatadogHttpReporter#report() --- If your project is set up for it, you can reply to this email and have your reply appear on GitHub as well.
