    @shixiaogang you can also do that, but then the machinery in `SimpleStateDescriptor` is
only used by `ValueStateDescriptor` because this is really the only descriptor that has a
default value. (In my original implementation it was like this and only `ValueStateDescriptor`
had the serialisation logic and a default value.)
