Merged in 08f189ad37a64b094ba86def8544687419c131ce

This was a contribution from Vasia Kalavri. The merge/rebase screwed up the  commit author.

@StephanEwen has suggested to add support for this by changing the code for aggregators and
convergence criterion to take an object, rather than a class, i.e. instead of
