No, I don't think it is a double escape.
Can encodeURI help? Will try it instead of escape.
Also I was told that my problem might be caused by SiteMinder trying to
prevent from cross site scripting. That can be remedied by some parameter
on Apache. Will talk to WebOps support about it.
