Flex uses invalidation/validation for performance reasons.  The use of validateNow() exists
to allow you to force validation if you need to use the validated values before the system
can validate.  The only thing "unexpected" in the test case is that you may have to call validateNow()
more than once, but that may also be required for renderers that do not validate immediately
because they are dependent on externally loaded assets, flowing text, or some other deferred
processing.
