I go there cause i want to learn new stuf, learn what's going on, look outs= ide of my area of expertise. We need to get more people interested in Flex.= You don't let this community grow by offering a conference dedicated to on= ly flex. But if you have a conference on BigData, Cloud Computing, Cool Dev= Ops stuff AND Flex that is definitely going to attract more new people than= an Flex 360 (My opinion). And it would have been much easier for me to get= my boss to fly to an ApacheCon than to a Flex 360. Apache is about Community, ApacheCon is about community, and we definitely = need to work a little on that part. If there are no objections or any other people willing to do so, I would vo= lunteer to submit a Track proposal to the CpacheCon comitee, as I would rea= lly love to spread the word a little more :) Chris=20 ________________________________________ Von: Alex Harui Gesendet: Montag, 20. April 2015 21:05 An: dev@flex.apache.org Betreff: Re: AW: 360 Flex (was Re: How about proposing for a Flex track at = the ApacheCon EU?) My takeaway from the discussion about ApacheCon on the Apache-wide mailing lists is that ApacheCon is a for-profit venture of the Linux Foundation. The LF is not out to promote all Apache projects, just the ones they think will sell the most tickets. Maybe I=92m under-selling Flex, but I don=92t think Flex at ApacheCon is a big enough draw to get folks to pay the big bucks to get into ApacheCon although, given that there isn=92t a 360|Flex outside the US, I suppose it might be cheaper for some folks to attend ApacheCon EU than fly to the US. It just isn=92t cheaper for me, and I=92m pretty sure a 360|Flex in the US will have a much lower ticket cost than ApacheCon will. IMO, if Flex does start to become more and more popular, it may then make sense to be part of ApacheCon or have a second lower-cost Flex-only conference in Europe and/or Asia. It sort of depends on what kinds of responses we get on threads like this. If we get a bunch of replies from folks who want to get together, it will help us determine what our next best move is. For me, the relatively quiet response we get indicates that there aren=92t enough folks who want a conference on Flex. Of course, we might be asking in the wrong place. You are welcome to pursue getting the LF to have a Flex track at ApacheCon EU, and/or, put together a smaller cheaper conference yourself. I=92ll do what I can to try to help you push on the folks at Apache and the LF for acceptance if that=92s what you want to do, but I probably can=92t attend ApacheCon EU myself in 2015, and I=92m not going to be very enthusiastic if they ask me what I think the impact will be of having Flex on the schedule.
