We do that out of convenience for the most part.  It's a single command that gives a "specific
to  the user " timestamp.  But the bottom line is, it only needs to be unique(ish) for how
often it needs to be called.  If a user is accessing a file several times a day, then it needs
to be more specific than just yymmdd.

Timestamping needs to be done in Ant.  Does it have to have
seconds/minutes?
