If you want to give me a little bit better understanding of the use case, I
think I could create a nice AIR app that would do what I think you want to
have done.

Since I mostly work on Windows, I have spent a little time trying to see
how it could be done on that platform, and it looks not difficult.  Since,
however, you would probably demand that it work on OS X as well, I will
need to be more cautiously optimistic because I don't know anything about
plists, but they seem to be accessible, so there must be a comparable
solution.
