I think my desktop monitor distorts the video output of my laptop,
stretching it wider than it is on the laptop.  So, I don't know of any way
to guarantee you could measure a screen and see the same size you intended.

But allowing different units in CSS and trying our best to get a better
sense of the density might still be worth it.
