Some random thoughts :

   - Logo are indeed strategic for top 500 companies. However, are you
   aware of their cost?
   It can be up to 500K€/$ and probably more.
   This is Apache Flex, there is no money involved, no money reward and it
   had to be made in a short time-frame.
   Community people did it for free and passion.

   - Have you already seen Apache Tomcat or PHP logo? Not better that the
   one that will be chosen for Flex IMO.
   But these products/languages are widely used by the software industry.
   Why? Not because of their logo but because
   there are great working open source software. And that will be the same
   story for Apache Flex.
