Carsten Ziegeler reopened FELIX-4787:

I'm reopening this as I'm not sure if this is a good idea and if it's really worth the effort.
Now, on R5 frameworks, there are no DTO packages, that's why the SCR bundle exports (and imports)
them. Exporting these packages from a bundle that is not the framework does not sound like
a good idea; the wiring should work in all cases, but still it feels wrong.
The new DS spec is clearly build on top of R6, other upcoming specs are as well and none of
their implementations runs on pre R6 frameworks.
I think the point of being able to run in older frameworks is today more a theoretical one.
(Similar topic, I wouldn't mind to move to Java 6 as the base)

> DS implementation should work with R5
> -------------------------------------
> Key: FELIX-4787
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FELIX-4787
> Project: Felix
> Issue Type: Task
> Components: Declarative Services (SCR)
> Reporter: Carsten Ziegeler
> Assignee: Carsten Ziegeler
> Fix For: scr-2.0.0
> Right now the new DS implementation stills tries to run on older frameworks, the bnd.bnd
file claims it works with version 1.4 of the framework api.
> However, the new DS spec includes support for ServiceObjects and DTOs which are part
of core R6 (package version 1.8). There is some effort in the code to still run on an older
framework if these features are not used, but I'm wondering if this is a good idea and how
we ensure that everything is working.
> Now, that we have an official Apache Felix releases that is R6 compliant, I would rather
require this as the minimal version.
