As a first step I've created a new macro which just creates the short links. The new format is
{felixdownload:EXTENSION}filename_without_extension{felixdownload}

for example:

{felixdownload:jar}org.apache.felix.scr-1.0.0{felixdownload}

To create links for both tar.gz and zip a shortcut can be used by using the extension "bin":

{felixdownload:bin}org.apache.felix.scr-1.0.0{felixdownload}
