Subject [jira] Commented: (FELIX-58) Extend HTTP Service to support deploying WARs
Date Thu, 20 Apr 2006 08:15:07 GMT

Daniel Fagerstrom commented on FELIX-58:

WARs are rather monolithic compared to what is possible to do with bundles. In Cocoon we are
working on a framework for creating webapps based on bundles (called blocks due to historical
reasons). In the latest version (http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=xml-cocoon-dev&m=114237414521595&w=2)
the blocks framwork is completely based on OSGi standard services (especially declarative
services) and the servlet set of API, nothing Cocoon specific at all.

If there is interest in bundle based webapps within the Felix community we would be interested
in working together on this.

> Extend HTTP Service to support deploying WARs
> ---------------------------------------------
> Key: FELIX-58
> URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FELIX-58
> Project: Felix
> Type: New Feature

> Components: HTTP Service
> Reporter: Richard S. Hall
> Assignee: Marcel Offermans
> Priority: Minor

> Since our HTTP Service uses Jetty underneath, it would be interesting to extend it to
support deploying WARs in bundles. Marcel Offermans has done some work in this area, so I
am assigning this issue to him. :-) I am not sure if this issue can be done independently
of a move to Jetty 5/6 (see FELIX-55) or if it should be coordinated or merged somehow.
