Probably the same issue as DRILL-4405 (or related in some way). 

According to postgres documentation (http://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/static/typeconv-overview.html):
bq. If a type is not specified for a string literal, then the placeholder type unknown is
assigned initially, to be resolved in later stages as described below.

this might cause clashes with Drill which is assuming a different type for the literal.
