Lothar Haeger commented on DIRSTUDIO-915:
-----------------------------------------

Hi Pierre-Arnaud,

it's easy to reproduce here for the first and last cases (text + NULL), but quite random under
which circumstances the "Binar Data (xxxBytes)" variety will show up.

Text: set the value to "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><filter/>" e.g with
LBE (http://www.novell.com/communities/node/8652) and hit the refresh button in DS
NULL: using LBE, set the value to:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<filter>
	<filter-class class-name="Group" publisher="sync" publisher-create-homedir="true" publisher-track-template-member="true"
subscriber="ignore">
		<filter-attr attr-name="aieAttrEngineSchedule" merge-authority="none" publisher="sync"
publisher-optimize-modify="true" subscriber="notify"/>
		<filter-attr attr-name="aieBlockedValues" merge-authority="edir" publisher="ignore" publisher-optimize-modify="true"
subscriber="notify"/>
		<filter-attr attr-name="aieLastSync" merge-authority="none" publisher="ignore" publisher-optimize-modify="true"
subscriber="ignore"/>
		<filter-attr attr-name="aieOp" merge-authority="none" publisher="ignore" publisher-optimize-modify="true"
subscriber="notify"/>
		<filter-attr attr-name="aieFutureValues" merge-authority="edir" publisher="ignore" publisher-optimize-modify="false"
subscriber="notify"/>
		<filter-attr attr-name="aieManagedValues" merge-authority="edir" publisher="ignore" publisher-optimize-modify="false"
subscriber="notify"/>
	</filter-class>
	<filter-class class-name="User" publisher="sync" publisher-create-homedir="true" publisher-track-template-member="true"
subscriber="sync">
		<filter-attr attr-name="aieAttrEngineSchedule" merge-authority="none" publisher="sync"
publisher-optimize-modify="true" subscriber="notify"/>
		<filter-attr attr-name="aieBlockedValues" merge-authority="edir" publisher="ignore" publisher-optimize-modify="true"
subscriber="notify"/>
		<filter-attr attr-name="aieLastSync" merge-authority="none" publisher="ignore" publisher-optimize-modify="true"
subscriber="ignore"/>
		<filter-attr attr-name="aieOp" merge-authority="none" publisher="ignore" publisher-optimize-modify="true"
subscriber="notify"/>
		<filter-attr attr-name="aieFutureValues" merge-authority="edir" publisher="ignore" publisher-optimize-modify="false"
subscriber="notify"/>
		<filter-attr attr-name="aieManagedValues" merge-authority="edir" publisher="ignore" publisher-optimize-modify="false"
subscriber="notify"/>
		<filter-attr attr-name="departmentNumber" merge-authority="none" publisher="sync" publisher-optimize-modify="true"
subscriber="notify"/>
		<filter-attr attr-name="costcenter" merge-authority="none" publisher="sync" publisher-optimize-modify="true"
subscriber="notify"/>
	</filter-class>
</filter>

and hit refresh in DS.

Sometimes similar medium-sized values in the order of 10s to 100s of bytes will show as "Binary
Data". Maybe if you can fix the NULL variety, the "Binary Data" thing might vanish as well...

I tried refreshing the schema cache, no success. Also I can see it on yll drivers in various
trees, from 10 year old stuff that went through all edir versions imaginable, to freshly installed
development trees runnign the lastest version 8.8.7.

Is there any way to trace what DS is doing that may help you? Do you have a debug build of
DS I could try or anything else for me to help?

> Attribute values of binary syntax OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.5 are displayed inconsistently
and partly wrong. Those attributes contain base 64 encoded text and some of them are displayed
as
> - editable (inline + dialog) text
> - "Binary Data (xxx Bytes)"
> - NULL
> See attached screenshot for an example of Apache DS vs. Gawor LDAP Browser/Editor displayoing
the same object.
