How about removing the RAT check on 'regular' builds and only having it active in the case of a release ('release' and/or 'apache-release' profiles)?
I have had countless builds interrupted on my day-to-day work because of the presence of diff file or a txt file in which I store some temporary work resources.
Although the RAT plugin is very useful, I think it's counter-productive to have it activated on any build.
