A simple solution is to create a lock file and place it in the working directory. A patch
with the proposed fix has been attached (created against the revision 966207 ). 
But am not committing this patch as this fix can get in your way creating issues if the lock
file wasn't cleaned up due to
a bad VM crash (one e.x kill the JVM in the middle of a debugging session)

Will keep this on hold from committing til many people agree to this solution.
